Top five picks for Cannes

Ahead of her trip to the Cannes Lions Festival, IAB Marketing Manager, Caroline Manson, tells us her top 5 picks for the week…

So big news, the IAB UK will once again be out in Cannes and for some of us, it’s our first trip. With so much to do and see, I asked a few of team their top tips for Cannes – you can watch their recommendations on where to go, what to see and what to pack on our YouTube channel.

For me, there are 5 top things I’m going to attempt to do during the week:

Cannes Lions Conference 

Firstly, I’m lucky enough to have a delegate pass to the festival so naturally, I am really looking forward to seeing some of the amazing speakers. To pick just one is pretty hard but there is one person speaking who I’d be absolutely gutted to miss. Top of my list of people to see is not Dame Helen Mirren (although I’m sure that will be an interesting session) is Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook COO, who is on stage with Jonathan Mildenhall, CMO of Airbnb and Colleen DeCourcy, Global CCO of Wieden & Kennedy. They’ll be discussing creativity on Mobile. If you want to go (save me a seat) but it’s on Wednesday at 2pm at the Lumiere Theatre.

The Yachts and Beaches

I hear the yachts and the beach is a big part of the Cannes experience and who am I to say no to sun, sea and sand? Hopefully at one point during the week you’ll find me on the Teads yacht, sipping on that famous rosé everyone talks about whilst charging up my phone and listening to some talks. I’ve got my eye on their session with TED speaker Tim Urban who’ll be giving a keynote presentation on AI followed by a fireside chat with Emi Gal, who I’ve seen before at our Engage conferences and he was excellent. If you want to join me there it's on Wednesday at 4.30-5.30pm.

The Cabana’s on La Croisette

Next, I’ll be off to check out the Cabana’s along the main street in Cannes: La Croisette. I’m excited to see what they have in store for the visitors and from a marketing point of view, I’m interested to see what companies have done with the spaces. I’m sure there will be lots to pick from but RadiumOne have been in touch to say they’ve got a cabana for client and partner meetings about Dark social, so that’s one company I’ll know to say hi to on my way around. 

Gallery and Awards

It won't just be sun, sea and suspicious colleagues: I will be doing work whilst out there: honest! I’m hoping to make it to some of the awards and look around the gallery, getting some great examples of digital adverts from around the world. I’m really hoping to see the cutting edge work first hand and leave inspired.


Finally, no trip to Cannes would be complete without a party or two! I’ve got my ticket for the AOL Launch Party with Stevie Nicks on Monday night, so if I survive that one, fingers crossed I’ll make the rest of the week.
